Welcome to Jannat.com

Living in the west as a practising Muslim can provide a daily set of challenges that can on occasion seem as daunting to overcome as they are rewarding.

Every day the thinking Muslim is faced with thoughts that are presented as natural and progressive but which are at odds with what he or she believes to be true.

Some ideas that Muslims may find to be deeply unpleasant are presented as being as nice as eating ice cream in the park with the family, and that only those who are strange or backward would not accept them and act upon them.

How can populist ideas that are put on the table as being a common starting point for debate be discussed from an Islamic viewpoint? Does Islam agree with these ideas or does it provide an alternative way of thinking that is more agreeable to the human nature?

The purpose of this blog is to put down in writing some thoughts on how intellectual challenges faced by Muslims living in the West can be addressed. These thoughts most likely won’t be definitive answers to the conundrums faced by Muslims but they will most definitely be open to debate, discussion and refinement.

I work and live in London and am surrounded by and interact with friends, colleagues and relatives who hold almost every imaginable belief system, ideology and viewpoint about life from claiming to believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster to being passionate about Zionism. Insha’Allah, I will always attempt to stand for Islam and discuss these issues from an Islamic perspective and present my thoughts on this blog.

Where I do not have immediate responses to hand I will aim to research and discuss with other people until I do find satisfactory answers.

I hope that this blog allows me to work through these various challenges and structure my thoughts in such a way that they will be of benefit to others and contribute in a small way to a respectful understanding of Islam in a liberal secular Western society.

I also plan to occasionally add some views about current affairs and some other resources that people may find useful.

May Allah (swt) accept my efforts, purify my intentions and allow me to provide benefit to the readers of this blog by His (swt) Mercy.

Ameen
